C. H. Unthan and "The Pediscript"

 

"The Pediscript: Notes From the Life of an Armless Man by C. H. Unthan with 30 illustrations- photographs. Narrative of the life of a man of 75 years of age written by means of his feet"

This first edition published in German in1925 by Robert Lutz, Stuttgart. This 316 page hard bound book with light tan boards, dark maroon spine and dark maroon oval on the front with gold lettering. Spine is highly decorated in gold filigree with a blue title label near the top and a orange red label stating "Memorial Edition" near the bottom. This copy, given to Forbes by Dr. Seif at Harvard in the summer of 1929, introduced Forbes to Carl Herman Unthan "The Armless Fiddler".

The front end page has a description in English, written in pen by J. Malcolm Forbes. Forbes later wrote the preface for the 1935 English edition, "The Armless Fiddler: A Pediscript, Being The Life Story Of A Vaudeville Man" by C. H. Unthan with a Preface by J. Malcom Forbes. 14 illustrations-photograhs. Published by George Allen & Unwin LTd, Museum Street, London.

Dr. Wysocki of Mobile, Alabama in 1910.
